Rennie, SHEA & LINDSAY, STEREOTYPERS AND ELECTROTYPERS, 81, 83, & 85 CENTRE-STREET, New York. GEORGE W. WOOD, PRINTER, No. 2 Dutch-st., N. Y. PREFACE. The Graded Course of study here presented, is substantially the Course adopted in the Public Schools of Chicago. It is believed to combine the best elements of the different systems adopted in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, St. Louis, and other cities. Most of the Directions which accompany tho Course have been suggested by the author's diary of visits to the schools of Chicago and other cities; and they are designed to supply the deficiencies most frequently observed in schools, and to correct the most common faults. The kind reception of the author's Seventh Annual Report, which embraced a large portion of the Course here presented, and the success of the system in the schools of Chicago, have induced the belief that the same Graded Course and accompanying Directions may prove acceptable to teachers in the present revised form. |
