Σελίδα 145 - A Cord of wood is a pile 8 ft. long, 4 ft. wide, and 4 ft. high ; for 8 x 4 x 4 = 128.
Σελίδα 141 - If 4% bonds to the amount of $8000 face value are bought at 92^%, find the cost of the bonds, and the rate of income on the investment. 12. If 3 men can do a piece of work in 8 days of 10 hours each, how many men will be required to do the same work in 6 days of 8 hours each ? (Solve by proportion.) 13. By selling a horse for $144, a profit of 60 per cent is made; find the cost of the horse.
Σελίδα 46 - What must be the nominal value of 4% bonds that will yield to their owner an annual income of $720 ? 7. A owns $6000 of 5% bonds; B owns $8000 of 4£% bonds. How much greater is the annual income from B's bonds than from A's ? 8. Find the area of a piece of land in the form of a rhomboid, whose base is 32 rods and whose altitude is 15 rods.
Σελίδα 47 - Definitions. Polygons are classed according to the number of their sides: A triangle is a polygon of three sides. A quadrilateral is a polygon of four sides. A pentagon has five sides ; a hexagon, six ; a heptagon, seven ; an octagon, eight ; an enneagon, nine ; a decagon, ten ; a dodecagon, twelve ; etc. . An equilateral polygon is one all of whose sides are equal ; an equiangular polygon, one all of whose angles are equal.
Σελίδα 148 - February 28, in leap year 29. 3. March 31 4. April 30 5. May 31 6. June . 30 7. July 31 8. August 31 9. September 30 10.
Σελίδα 149 - ANGULAR MEASURE. 60 seconds (") = 1 minute ('). 60 minutes = 1 degree (°). 360 degrees = 1 circumference.
Σελίδα 60 - If 5 men can do | of a piece of work in a day, how long will it take one man to do the entire work?
Σελίδα 37 - Such is the effect produced by the unequal heating of the equatorial parts; or, more correctly, such would be the effect were it not greatly modified by the earth's movement of rotation. As the circumference of the earth is, in round numbers, about 24,000 miles, and since it rotates on its axis, from west to east, once in 24 hours, the equatorial parts must have a motion of 1000 miles per hour; this velocity diminishes rapidly toward each pole, where it is reduced to nothing.
Σελίδα 52 - A circle may be regarded as composed of an infinite number of triangles, the sum of whose bases is the circumference of the circle and whose altitude is the radius of the circle.
